My journey into chiropractic

I’ve always had a passion for helping people, but my journey towards becoming a chiropractor began when I was just 12 years old.

I first met Stuart as a patient and later completed work experience at Derby Family Chiropractic. Seeing the relationships he built with his patients—and the improvements they experienced through chiropractic care—inspired me to pursue it as a career.

I joined Derby Family Chiropractic in 2013 while studying, initially working in an administrative role before becoming a Chiropractic Assistant. During this time, I expanded my knowledge of the body by completing courses in sports massage, aromatherapy, remedial massage and reflexology.

I later studied at McTimoney College of Chiropractic in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, qualifying as a chiropractor in December 2021. I loved my five years of study, particularly the practical technique and clinical medicine modules.

It has been a journey that began with a childhood ambition and led to a career I genuinely love—helping people feel and function better and improve their quality of life.

My approach to chiropractic care

After completing my degree, I continued developing my practical skills, particularly my Diversified technique. Although this was included in my degree, I believe there is always value in revisiting and refining clinical techniques.

I have also completed additional training in Cranial Facial Release. I enjoy having a variety of approaches available because every patient is different and may prefer or respond differently to particular techniques. This allows me to tailor care to each person’s needs and preferences.

For me, getting to know each patient as an individual is very important. I take the time to listen, understand your history and help you feel comfortable throughout your appointments.

Your initial consultation is thorough and may include a detailed medical history, neurological and orthopaedic testing, postural photographs and scans using surface electromyography—or sEMG—where clinically appropriate.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. I pride myself on being approachable, empathetic and friendly, and I’ll work with you to develop a care plan based on your individual needs and goals.

I genuinely love being a chiropractor and, as cheesy as it may sound, it rarely feels like a job. Seeing people regain confidence and return to the activities that matter to them is incredibly rewarding.

That might mean playing with their grandchildren, caring for loved ones, returning to sport or simply enjoying everyday life more comfortably.

One of the biggest misconceptions about chiropractic is that we simply “put things back into place” or that every appointment involves “cracking.” This isn’t the case. Chiropractors use a range of techniques, and not all of them produce cavitation—the familiar popping or cracking sound. McTimoney, for example, is a gentle, low-force technique that does not rely on this sound.

My biggest piece of advice is simple: movement is medicine. Staying active—even in small doses—can help keep our joints moving and support our overall health and wellbeing.

Outside the clinic

When I’m not in the clinic, I like to stay active and make the most of the outdoors. You’ll often find me walking my little Jackapoo, Bear, with my headphones in and some good music playing while we explore new places.

I also enjoy going to the gym, catching up with friends and family, and finding a good iced-coffee spot where I can settle down with my Kindle.

In my spare time, I volunteer for the Cinnamon Trust—something I really enjoy and feel passionate about.

I’m also a sports fan and will happily watch football—Derby County, for my sins!—as well as darts, Formula 1 and the occasional bit of boxing or MMA.

I’ll never say no to a good old cuppa, although I can easily be persuaded by a caramel iced latte. Despite my best efforts to become an early bird, I’m definitely more of a night owl—especially when there’s a beautiful sunset or starry sky to enjoy.

One of my favourite places I’ve visited is Canada, particularly Niagara Falls and the beautiful Muskoka Lakes. I’m always looking forward to discovering where I’ll explore next.
