My journey into chiropractic

My journey into chiropractic began after experiencing a series of running injuries.

I visited several different healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors. Of the approaches I experienced, chiropractic resonated most strongly with me. I initially sought help for my injuries but also felt that chiropractic care positively influenced my general wellbeing and sporting performance.

This experience inspired me to learn more. I began working alongside several chiropractors, initially as a Chiropractic Assistant and Sports Massage Therapist, before eventually deciding to pursue chiropractic as my own career.

I began my chiropractic education at the Barcelona College of Chiropractic, where I studied for six months. I then continued my training at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, qualifying in 2016.

After graduating, I established my own chiropractic practice just outside Towcester.

I moved to Derbyshire after Stuart and I had our beautiful daughter, Amber, in 2018. In September 2020, we opened Derby Family Chiropractic’s Chellaston clinic, where I have continued helping patients ever since.

My experience and interests

Alongside my Master of Chiropractic qualification, I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Science and am trained as a Sports Massage Therapist.

I have continued developing my clinical skills through postgraduate courses in Diversified chiropractic techniques, muscle testing with Simon King and soft-tissue release. I have also completed training in bioresonance.

My previous experience in sports science and sports massage gives me a broad understanding of movement, exercise and the muscular system, which complements my chiropractic approach.

Although I enjoy working with patients from all walks of life, I have a particular interest in caring for older adults. I enjoy helping people remain as active, mobile and independent as possible as they get older.

I use a combination of chiropractic techniques and adapt my approach to suit the individual. Not everyone has the same needs, preferences or goals, so I believe care should never be one-size-fits-all.

My approach to chiropractic care

I understand how frustrating it can be when pain or injury prevents you from doing the activities you enjoy. My own experience with running injuries was what first brought me to chiropractic, so I can appreciate the importance of being listened to and having your concerns properly understood.

I take the time to learn about each patient’s health, lifestyle and personal goals before recommending an appropriate approach to care.

My aim is to help patients feel comfortable, informed and involved throughout their care. Techniques can be adapted according to a patient’s age, health, preferences and individual circumstances.

What I enjoy most about being a chiropractor is seeing people become more confident in their movement and return to the activities that matter to them. This could mean participating in sport, enjoying a walk, playing with grandchildren or simply finding everyday tasks easier to manage.

Outside the clinic

Outside the clinic, I enjoy watching most sports—particularly athletics.

I’m also a lifelong Arsenal supporter, thanks to some early brainwashing from my dad and grandad!

My favourite ways to stay active include walking in the countryside with Monty, our three-year-old Jackapoo, and trials riding with my daughter, Amber. I also enjoy exercising on a trampette or rebounder, which brings out the child in me and is always guaranteed to lift my mood.

Patients may be surprised to learn that I lived in Barcelona for six months while beginning my chiropractic studies. It remains my favourite place to visit—and it also introduced me to the cortado!

When it comes to drinks, I’m happy with either tea or coffee, although a flat white or cortado is difficult to beat.

I don’t have much choice about being an early bird, thanks to an energetic daughter and a crazy dog—both of whom are ready to start the day far earlier than I am!

Finally, my favourite film is Pretty Woman.
